She earned her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Santo Tomas. After completing her orthopaedic surgery residency at Makati Medical Center, one of the top JCI-accredited hospitals in the Philippines, she further specialized in pediatric orthopaedics with a year-long training at Shriners Hospitals for Children in the United States. During this time, she had the opportunity to rotate across multiple locations, including Hawaii, Portland, Lexington, Sacramento, and Pasadena. Following her training, Dr. Yeo maintained a mixed practice, working both in private and public healthcare settings in the Philippines. She does private practice at Makati Medical Center and also contributes to the Philippine Children’s Medical Center, the country’s largest and leading referral hospital for pediatric cases. Additionally, Dr. Yeo was invited to join the Philippine Orthopaedic Institute, the country’s first private orthopaedic group practice founded by the renowned Dr. Ramon Gustilo, which operates based on the American system of care. Dr. Yeo’s clinical expertise spans general pediatric orthopaedics, with special interest on conditions of the lower extremities—such as pediatric hip, knee, and foot disorders, limb deformities, and neuromuscular conditions—as well as scoliosis. She is thrilled to be joining SickKids, where she will be the first Filipino orthopaedic surgeon in the department. Eager to work alongside some of the best medical professionals in the world, Dr. Yeo looks forward to refining her clinical skills and contributing to the ongoing excellence at SickKids. I earned my medical degree with honors from Hashemite University, followed by postgraduate training in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Jordan. During my residency, I developed a growing interest in spine surgery through frequent involvement in complex spine cases. Following residency, I worked as an orthopedic specialist in the Spine Unit at King Hussein Cancer Center under the mentorship of Dr.Rakan Shahaltough, where I was extensively involved in the management of complex spinal tumors and various reconstruction procedures. I then pursued a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics and Scoliosis Surgery at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, under the mentorship of Dr. Ron El-Hawary, Dr. Benjamin Orlik, Dr. Karl Logan, Dr. Luke Gauthier, and Dr. Kevin Morash. As the primary pediatric orthopedic center in Atlantic Canada, IWK provided exposure to the full spectrum of pediatric orthopedics, with valuable training in advanced techniques for pediatric spinal deformity. I am now delighted to join the Orthopedic team at SickKids as a Spine Fellow, where I look forward to further refining my skills and gaining comprehensive experience in managing pediatric spinal conditions. Outside of work, I enjoy my time with my wife, Aseel, who is completing a Neonatology fellowship at SickKids, and our two daughters, Layan and Tala."</image:caption>

Her clinical and research interests include neuromuscular conditions, foot and hip disorders, lower limb deformities, and trauma-related injuries. She has received several awards, including the 2025 EPOS Young Researcher Award, and collaborates on both national and international research projects. She has authored over 60 scientific publications, contributed to multiple educational initiatives, and edited a surgical textbook on pediatric fractures. María is deeply committed to multidisciplinary care, education, and continuous learning, and is actively involved in several scientific societies. Outside of medicine, María enjoys sports and nature. Soccer has shaped her values of effort, teamwork, generosity and resilience—principles she carries into her clinical practice. She stays active through running, cycling, and exploring the outdoors with friends in her free time. María is honoured to join the SickKids team and looks forward to the incredible opportunity to learn, collaborate with peers, share knowledge, and contribute to the care of children at one of the world’s leading pediatric institutions.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Dr David Kelly David Kelly is an Orthopaedic Surgeon from Western Australia. He holds dual degrees in Medicine from the University of Notre Dame and Physiotherapy from Curtin University, along with a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Epidemiology. He undertook orthopaedic surgical training in Australia, earning Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. David held various representative roles through his training which culminated in serving on the board of the Australian Orthopaedic Association when he was elected as the President of the National Registrar (trainee) Association. As a junior doctor, Davids career was decorated with three separate awards for doctor of the year along with various awards for his participation in research. Following his training, David completed a year-long subspecialty fellowship in upper limb surgery at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Queensland. He will be returning to his home town of Perth for a mixed paediatric and adult orthopaedic practice. A big kid at heart, David has always found paediatric orthopaedics to be a natural fit. He is particularly passionate about the complexity, cross-specialty collaboration, and multidisciplinary care involved in managing neuromuscular, congenital and upper limb conditions. He very much looks forward to his time at SickKids. “The chance to perform a Salter osteotomy using Rang retractors—within the very institution where these great pioneers of paediatric orthopaedics once worked—is not only a rare privilege, but also an opportunity for me to hopefully carry forward their remarkable legacy”. Outside of medicine, David is utterly besotted with his newborn son. He and his beautiful wife share a love of exercise, travel, and outdoor adventures but much of their affection is still lavished on their first “child,” Charlie, a spoilt 10-year-old Spaniel.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Dr Mohsen Raza Dr. Mohsen Raza was born and raised in Manchester, United Kingdom. He completed his medical degree (MBBS) at University College London, where he also undertook an intercalated degree in International Health - an experience that sparked his interest in global surgery. As part of his medical training, he completed an overseas elective in trauma surgery at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. Following graduation, Dr. Raza completed his Foundation Training in London before pursuing Core Surgical Training within the East of England Deanery. His dedication to global health was further demonstrated through voluntary surgical placements at Beit CURE International Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi. He began his Orthopaedic Residency training in the South West London Deanery (St George's Hospital rotations) where he continued to cultivate his interests in global surgery and medical education. This included clinical and teaching visits to Ghana with the AO Alliance Foundation and a return to Malawi as an International Paediatric Orthopaedic Visiting Fellow at Beit CURE International Hospital - part of an approved Out of Programme Training Experience. Throughout his training, Dr. Raza has developed a strong interest in research, particularly in the fields of trauma and paediatric orthopaedics. He has co-led several national, trainee-led research projects and contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications. During his fellowship year at SickKids, Dr. Raza will also be enrolled in the 'Global Health Education Initiative' certificate program at the University of Toronto. By further developing his knowledge in global health and leadership, he aims to continue supporting voluntary surgical and educational initiatives through partnerships with orthopaedic and humanitarian organisations. Dr. Raza is honoured to undertake the prestigious Paediatric Orthopaedic Fellowship at SickKids and looks forward to advancing his surgical skills under the mentorship of internationally recognised experts. Outside of medicine, he enjoys music, sports, travel, and mountain hiking. He is also an accredited medical leader with the British Exploring Society and is excited to explore Toronto and Canada’s renowned wilderness and national parks. .</image:caption>

      <image:title>Fellowship - Research Opportunities</image:title>
<image:caption>Fellows are expected to complete a research project during their fellowship. The faculty surgeons are all experienced academic researchers with expertise in clinical epidemiology, medical education, bioethics, basic science and biomedical engineering and are available to supervise a wide range of research projects. Fellows are encouraged to start their own novel research projects and in addition are encouraged to join existing projects that align with their clinical interests. Fellows are expected to present their research at the University of Toronto Division of Orthopaedics Fellows Research Day, and submit their research for publication in peer-reviewed journals. A highly qualified clinical research assistant is dedicated to facilitating new fellow research projects, with the ability to help with study design, obtain ethical board approval and in data analysis. Academic Meetings Fellows are encouraged to attend North American and international paediatric orthopaedic meetings, including POSNA and IPOS. Each fellow is provided with a generous stipend for academic travel expenses in addition to their salary. Fellows are entitled to four weeks paid vacation leave, plus one week of conference leave each year.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Fellowship - Taking Call</image:title>
<image:caption>SickKids is a level I paediatric trauma centre and has a broad referral base for emergent conditions. Becoming confident with the acute management of fractures, complex trauma and bone and joint infections is an essential aspect of paediatric orthopaedic training. Principles and experience gained from these areas translate broadly to elective scenarios. Clinical fellows take call on a 1 in 5 basis in a hierarchical roster together with residents and faculty. Primary calls to the emergency department, the ward and from other institutions are fielded by the residents. Fellows assume duties that are transitional on their way to becoming faculty themselves.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Dr. Maria Pia Monjardino was born and raised in Portugal. She obtained at School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (University of Porto) the Master’s degree in Medicine. She completed her residency in Orthopaedics Surgery at Coimbra University Hospital and was hired as a Staff Surgeon by the Department of Pediatric Orthopaedics of Coimbra’s Pediatric Hospital, heading by Dr Cristina Alves, and became member of the Spine Team, leading by Dr Tah Pu Ling. She is currently in a 2-year Post-Graduate Special Training Program in her Department. Early in her residency, Dr. Monjardino developed a strong interest in spine surgery and during her Pediatric Orthopaedics rotation she became enthusiastic about Pediatric Orthopaedics in general and Pediatric Spine in particular. Most recently, she is also coordinating the Orthopaedic care at the Bone Dysplasias and Metabolic Bone Diseases Multidisciplinary Clinic. She had also the privilege to collaborate with gifted surgeons: she visited Dr Jennifer Bauer at Seattle’s Children’s Hospital to experience a different approach to Pediatric Spine and Prof Federico Canavese at Jeanne de Flandres Hospital (Lille) to learn more about the pediatric spine casting technique. During her free time, Pia likes to run, eat nice food, taste good wines, travel around the world with her youngest sister and spend time with her family, especially her niece and nephews. “Being in SickKids is an outstanding opportunity for me as a Surgeon, but also for my Department as (probably) the main department providing pediatric spine care in Portugal.”</image:caption>

<image:caption>Dr. Hannah De Houwer Dr. Hannah De Houwer was born and raised in Belgium, where she completed her medical degree at KU Leuven. Her orthopedic residency allowed her to train pediatric orthopedics at the University Hospitals of Leuven, leading to a two-year fellowship under guidance of prof. Anja Van Campenhout and prof. Guy Molenaers among others. She is a member of the Belgian Association of Pediatric Orthopaedics (BAPO), and will join the Belgian Cerebral Palsy Registry (BeCPR) expert panel upon completion of the SickKids fellowship, to contribute to international research as a partner of the Surveillance of Cerebral Palsy in Europe. Cerebral palsy care is her main interest within pediatric orthopedic surgery. Her formation in adult foot and ankle pathology during residency led to a particular interest in pediatric foot pathology, as well as limb deformity management. During her residency and fellowship, dr. De Houwer found working in multidisciplinary teams in care for neuromuscular diseases and congenital (upper) limb deformities most rewarding. This keeps motivating her to expand her knowledge and care beyond the mere musculoskeletal pathology, in order to step up to the role of confidant for the child and their parents. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, cycling and travelling, as well as passing time with family and friends over fine food. She plans on combining these activities to explore this beautiful country and experience the Canadian way of living to its fullest.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Dr Marco Goetze Dr. Marco Goetze graduated from the Medical School at the Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg, Germany in 2010. Paediatric Orthopaedics has been his special interest for all his professional life. Especially Paediatric Neurorthopaedics have accompanied and inspired him on his way from an early stage in his studies. He finds dealing with and treating our patients is exciting, diverse and fulfilling everyday After his residency at the University Hospital and BG Trauma Hospital in Tübingen, Germany as well as the Children’s Hospital in Lucerne, Switzerland, he obtained his specialization in Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery in 2017. He then obtained his specialization in Paediatric Orthopaedics in 2018 and has been a consultant at the Orthopaedic University Hospital Heidelberg, Germany since, with a special interest in Neuromuscular diseases, deformity correction, hip and foot surgery. In 2019 he was awarded the Travelling Fellowship of the German Speaking Paediatric Orthopaedic Society VKO and had the chance to visit renown institutions around Europe. He is interested in motion analysis and has worked and published on neurorthopaedic gait disorders, furthermore he also is an Associate Editor for the Gait and Posture Journal. He thinks that sharing our experience and connecting our ideas in professional exchange is crucial to improve treatment of our children and our specialty itself. Therefore, looking beyond the horizon and getting input from experts at the Sick Kids will be of so much value for him and he is excited to learn and develop further during his fellowship in Toronto</image:caption>

      <image:title>Fellowship G2 - Taking Call</image:title>
